One of our clients was having major problems with their conveyor take-up winches across their site which was causing downtime and operational issues.
GTE conducted an audit of their winches and implemented a number of changes based on the audit which included: optimising VSD settings, optimising VSD control from the PLC by tuning the PID control loop, modifying winch control logic, updating and improving winch SCADA screens, selecting and installing additional instrumentation, commissioning all changes, as-building and re-drafting all related drawings and submitting all relevant documentation into the clients document management system.
The project resulted in a significant reduction in alarms and downtime associated with the winches for the client.
