Course Details

What You Will Learn

This course provides participants with essential knowledge and skills to demonstrate competency in functional safety and implement safety practices that reduce risks to people, assets, and the environment. Training topics include:

Legal regulations and safety standards
Risk reduction strategies in accordance with ISO 12100 (AS 4024.1 Part 1201)
Protective equipment for machinery and its selection
Safety Functions for machines
Understanding and applying required Performance Levels (PLr) and Safety Integrity Levels (SIL)
Management, documentation, verification, and validation requirements

Who Should Attend?

This Course is Designed for:

Electrical and control system engineers
Anyone required to be responsible for, and competent in the safe design, operation, and maintenance of industrial machinery including:
- Factory automation
- Industrial robotic systems
- Packaging machines
- Conveyors
- Crushers, rock breakers, car dumpers
- Balanced machines (e.g. stackers, reclaimers, shiploaders)

Eligibility

In accordance with the TÜV Rheinland Functional Safety Training Program prospective participants require:

A minimum of 3 years of experience in the field of Functional Safety.
A relevant university degree, diploma, or equivalent engineering experience and responsibilities as certified by an employer or engineering institution.

Course Format

Classroom based with limited numbers to provide an optimal learning environment and outcomes for participants.
Four days of learning with an exam on the fifth day.
Exam format: 70 multiple choice questions; 12 open questions
Pass mark 70%.

Material

Participants will receive comprehensive training materials.
It is highly recommended to bring the latest printed copies of the following standards as they are essential for the exam:
- ISO 12100 (AS 4024.1 Part 1200)
- ISO 13849 Parts 1 and 2 (AS 4024 parts 1501, 1502, 1503)
- AS/IEC 62061
A calculator is required for the exam. (Note: the use of a smartphone is not permitted.)

Certificate

Participants who complete the course, meet the eligibility requirements, and pass the exam will be issued the FS Engineer Certificate (TÜV Rheinland) from TÜV Rheinland and the use of the title FS Eng (by agreement with TÜV Rheinland).
The validity of the certification is five years, with the possibility to extend for a further five years. A second extension is also possible for a further 10 years.
